Asbestos

Asbestos was used extensively in several construction projects. Therefore, materials that may contain asbestos must be characterized in lab in order to determine if they effectively contain some. H2Lab has a team of specialists in the field of asbestos analysis who are recognized by the IRSST.

Asbestos in materials

Our Rouyn-Noranda lab is the only one in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region that is recognized by the IRSST to detect asbestos fibers in materials. At H2Lab, we can perform analyses by the polarized light microscopy method allowing to identify the different types of asbestos in materials.

Vermiculite

According to Health Canada, vermiculite sold before 1990 must be considered as a material with an asbestos content unless clear evidence to the contrary is shown. The only way to ensure that this material is exempt from asbestos consists in analyzing it using a recognized method. At H2Lab, we have the expertise needed to perform this kind of analysis.
